Sunderland Trust

In November 2015, it will be 75 years since Sunderland survivor T9044 sank off the famous flying boat station at Pembroke Dock.  That anniversary is fast approaching and the time to bring this unique wartime icon to the surface.

Together with the planning of the final recovery of T9044 comes plans for her conservation and display.  Due to the size of the aircraft, which has had many close calls with anchors and lobster pots over the years, T9044 presents many engineering challenges, requiring specialist skills.

The Sunderland Trust has set itself the 75th Anniversary date as a target to recover the remains of T9044.  Our small team of volunteer divers battle with many challenges each time they visit T9044 - strong currents, poor visibility, testing tidal and weather conditions - to recover items from the world's only surviving Mark I Sunderland.
