Town Centre Regeneration Team

Pembroke Dock was originally a small fishing village known as Pater Church, the town expanded from 1814 onwards following the construction of a Royal Naval Dockyard. Prior to 1814 Pembroke Dock and its nearby settlements were farmland.

As the Dockyard grew the need to defend the area was addressed and Pembroke Dock became a military town. Work began in 1844 to build the defensible barracks with its first occupiers  the Royal Marines of Portsmouth Division who moved in during 1845.

Between 1849 and 1857 the two Martello towers were constructed at the South Western and North Western corners of the Dockyard.

Today much of Pembroke Dock maritime industry has gone the main street of the town struggles with limited public and private investments.  Members of Pembroke Dock Town Council are currently working with the regeneration team at Pembrokeshire County Council, to investigate ways to regenerate the town centre of Pembroke Dock to bring it back to the heart of the Community.

If you or any other members of the community have any ideas which could help to regenerate the Town Centre of Pembroke Dock, please contact your local councillor or contact staff at the Town Council offices.

The Pembroke Dock Regeneration Team was formed to look at ideas of regenerating the Town Centre of Pembroke Dock.  A Public meeting was held to determine ideas and volunteers for different projects, a town team was formed and they are working with the Town Council and Pembrokeshire County Council to determine sustainable plans.

The Town Team have agreed that the town requires more events to bring tourists from far and wide so are aiming to hold a soap box derby within the town using Meyrick Street as the main area, they hope to make it a yearly event. The Town Team are currently in the planning stages with a view for the event to take place on Monday 26th May.

Pop up shops was another idea which had been mentioned, with one member of the team keen to open a pop up shop in the town centre, the group are hoping this is something which could be developed further in the new year.

If you have any ideas for regenerating the Town of Pembroke Dock or would like to get involved in anyway then please do not hesitate to contact us.
